Moving In: Which Room Should You Unpack First?

Unpacking The process of moving can be very stressful, so it’s understandable that when we get to our new living arrangements that we want to unpack quickly. However, with so much to do, where is the best place to start?

Kitchen

After a long day of moving, chances are you and anyone who helped you move is going to be hungry. So in this case, you might want to take care of unpacking all of your kitchen utensils, plates, bowls and even small appliances so you can whip up something to eat.

Bathroom

Once all of your boxes and furniture have been moved in, you might find yourself sweaty or in need a nice bath to relax. If that’s your situation, the first room to unpack should be your bathroom. That way when you are done enjoying yourself in the bath or shower, all of your towels and toiletries will be waiting to assist in getting you cleaned up and you can move on to the remaining unpacking you have left to do.

Bedroom

Moving can take a lot out of you. Once all the boxes are moved in, you may just want to close your eyes and sleep. If you feel this way, then the obvious choice is to unpack your bedroom items. Once you set up your bed and put your clothes away, you can hit the hay and rest up for more unpacking. Plus, if you find yourself exhausted after unloading a few boxes, you can alternate unpacking rooms with a brief nap to get your energy back as you get fully settled in your new home.

Another advantage of unpacking the bedroom first comes if you have kids. Once you unpack your child or children’s rooms, they can start getting settled in their new bedrooms leaving you free to focus on getting the rest of the house set up.
